(ASSOCIATION OF THE BRAZILIAN ARCHIVISTS)
The Association of the Brazilian Archivists, founded on the 20th October 1971, is a non-political, non-profit, cultural and private association. It is recognized as a Public Entity in the State of Rio de Janeiro, formed under Statute n. l.200 dated l3 April l977. It was created with the purpose of benefiting the professional archivists and the development of Brazilian archival matters.
The Association is affiliated to the International Council on Archives - ICA as member of the Section of the professional Archivists - SPA/CIA and is a member of the Latin American Association on Archives - ALA, participating also on the National Council on Archives - Conarq, as counsellor member.
In the long term, the AAB is working intensively towards giving importance and to the dissemination of the archivists' work. The Association organizes and promotes the Brazilian Congress on Archives, now in its XIIIth Congress, as well as stimulating and assisting in organizing seminars, courses and other educational events linked to its goals.
The "Boletim" (Bulletin), which is published four times a year, since l990, is the vehicle used to disseminate its activities. The revue Arquivo e Administração (Archives and Administration) started in l972 for the purpose of publishing studies, experiences and academic reflections about archives, in the national and international arenas. Besides these, it also publishes other works, increasing its importance on the archival scene.
The AAB also develops actions and activities through Committees and Work Groups, offering other services, searching for better documentation and quicker data retrieval, updating information.
By using the Internet, icon of the global world, and utilizing the modern resources of informatics, the AAB, through its "Home Page", hopes to maximize the exchange between the associates and other similar institutions, both nationally and internationally. The use of one more vehicle of communication and dissemination allows AAB to multiply the opportunities to succeed, by reaching its goals, and amplifying the universe of professionals and people interested in archival matters.
