17th BRAZILIAN CONGRESS OF ARCHIVAL SCIENCE
THEME: PRESERVATION, ACCESS, DISSEMINATION:
CHALLENGES FOR THE ARCHIVAL INSTITUTIONS IN THE XXI CENTURY
18 - 22 JUNE, 2012
RIO DE JANEIRO
Archival institutions are facing a big challenge when it comes to facing new questions that arise about archival organization, preservation, description, and usage. The changes occurring in twenty-first century society are represented in the forms of records, the mechanisms of businesses, the structuring of social relationships, as well as many other aspects of social life of this new century. These changes are reflected in all aspects of archives and require archival institutions to adapt or even reconstruct how they understand, represent, preserve and provide access to collections. This process led in the late twentieth century and the beginning of the new century to a community of researchers and practitioners revisiting the fundaments of theory and best practices in search of answers to new challenges posed by a pluralistic society. In the XVII Brazilian Congress of Archival Science we intend that from the themes discussed the community of researchers and professionals working in the archival field will analyze the main issues while considering the central role of archival institutions in Brazil and worldwide.
